Torit, Eastern Equatoria and Bentiu, Unity State
We've so far supported 4,137 persons with disabilities, to exercise their rights; and meaningfully participate in leadership and decision-making
Civil war and protracted inter-communal conflict in South Sudan has placed communities at heightened risk of experiencing violence and injustice.
Since 2022, we have been working with our partners UNMISS and UNDP on transitional justice programmes. First in Bentiu (Unity State), then Torit (Eastern Equatoria State), where we have provided training on human-rights, reconciliation and healing and transitional justice to persons with disabilities (PWDs), including to those individuals who experienced injury through war and conflict violence.
Furthermore, WART conducted several awareness raising activities through radio talk shows; speaking on topics relating to the truth, reconciliation and healing processes after conflict.
Additionally, through our project, we supported the capacity building of community based organisations as a catalyst for peace in South Sudan; documenting testimonials from conflict survivors; and provide legal assistance to those who have experienced injustice.
Through our transitional justice projects, we have so far supported 4,137 persons with disabilities, to exercise their rights; and meaningfully participate in leadership and decision-making.
