GBV Programme Manager
Margaret Opiyo is the GBV Program Manager for Women Agency for Resilience and Transformation (WART). Before joining WART, she worked as a GBV Master Trainer in Kenya, leading a school-based anti-sexual violence program that taught empowerment defense to girls and gender transformation to boys.
At WART, Margaret is the lead GBV prevention Master Trainer, providing training to over 50 female staff members who are implementing GBV prevention projects in various regions, including Aweil North (NBeG), Ayod (Jonglei), Bentiu (Unity), Juba (CE), Torit (EE), Kapoeta North (EE), and Kapoeta East (EE).
Margaret has over 10 years of experience in implementing GBV prevention projects across Kenya, Malawi, South Sudan, and Somalia. She is currently leading two major GBV and child protection programs in South Sudan, funded by UN Women, UNDP, Care International, and UNMISS. These programs aim to provide GBV prevention skills to at-risk women and girls in Bentiu, Malakal, Kapoeta, and Juba. Margaret holds an undergraduate degree in Gender Studies and is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Gender Studies from Mount Kenya University.
